16 Planners Share Their Favorite Wedding Songs of All Time

Let's talk music. How important is music on your wedding day?

VERY! Music is one of the more personal and very noticeable variables of your wedding day experience, and it can either make or break your vibe.

Only you know your music tastes best so to ensure the dance party of your wedding day dreams, it’s worth the effort to carefully select your must-have wedding songs vs leaving it up to your DJ’s interpretation of your music style.

I recommend couples begin a shared document where they can list songs they like as they hear them in the car, in the gym, or out on a date. Sometimes, it’s hard to remember your favorites on the spot, so having a running list will track your ideas before submitting your final list.

When meeting with your DJ to plan song selections, be clear in your vision and expectations.

For example, if you provide a list of your top 30 “must-play” songs, list them in priority order in case your DJ is not able to play all of them. Ask how many songs are reasonable to play given your reception duration so you have a better understanding for how your top picks may be mixed with their selections. Your DJ may also ask if you’re open to accepting guests requests. If so, know that the number of songs played from your list may take a back seat to accommodate.

And while your DJ is the music expert, they are also the “host” of your wedding on the microphone. Work closely with them and your Wedding Planner to draft announcement details and ensure the tone parallels your desired vibe.
